What does everyone think of David Thewlis as Remus? Appearance wise, do you think he fits the part? Is he how you pictured Remus while reading the books? Do you think he can act? Do you think he is too old for the part? Anything else you would like to mention? Vote in the poll and discuss. Okay, obviously I meant to put Remus instead of Hermione in the last poll answer, but it won't let me change it. Heartshapebruise, maybe it will let you? So, everyone just pretend it says Remus

Appearance-wise, he is nothing like I pictured Remus. And the moustache really annoyed me. He is quite a good actor though, but I would have rather preferred someone else as Remus. What does everyone else think?

Totally agree with you on the mustache. I think I cried when i saw it. I don't like Remus in the movie. everything about him is so harsh, his teaching style, the way he speaks.... everything.
and the one thing that bothered me.. HE WAS TALLER THAN SIRIUS! In my head readmus wsa only about 3 inches SHORTER.... le sigh.
Was NOT happy.

I have to agree with the two of you. The mustache bugged the hell out of me and physically, he looked nothing like I pictured Remus when I read the books. I'm sure he's a fine actor in other regards, but he just isn't right for this role.

Ok new girl goes against the flow...*cringes*
I loved David as Lupin, I have seen him in other things and I know what a brilliant actor he is. I know a lot of people didnt like his look for the film but I did. All the cast are given the thumbs up by JKR herself, I think its a clause in the contract between her and warner bros, she gets a say. So she must have liked him. I also think that it would be a mistake to put in someone like EG Jonny Depp, though I'm sure he'd be great, he'd be far to charasmatic and good looking. To me Remus isnt like that.
ok Im done... ;D

Ooh! You just had to bring up Johnny Depp! *ahem* Okay, it's probably better that he wasn't, because half the female audience would have been drooling over him the entire time, but still. Like I said, I'm sure David Thewlis is a fine actor; but the way they wrote the screenplay, etc. - he didn't really get a chance to make the character shine and, again, the mustache really *really* bugged me.

I agree. I mean, Remus IS JK's Favourite character! Wouldn't it be better for someone like Ralph Fiennes or even Clive Owen play him? Not just some dude with a hilter-esque moustache!!!!And what the hell were they thinking whern the cast the guy for sirius??

I really have to wonder why every role in HP must be filled by a sexgod... its ridiculous. They are supposed to be normal looking people. Sirius for example has just spent the last twelve years barely surviving and holding on to his sanity....hes not going to look his best, is he? and thats how they portrayed him. Gary Oldman is also one of the best english actors out there. Gary Oldman would still be my Sirius at a younger age....point's to these pic's Pic onepic two

While I see your point, I never saw Remus as a 'sex god' in the books either. DT just wasn't how I pictured him. Although...I have seen pics of him since w/o the mustache and I must say that's much closer to how I viewed him. Still not the exact same, but then, good luck getting imaginary images to match an actor exactly.

I guess i pictured him with mousy brown hair or maybe reddish with silvery streaks here and there and less well.. harsh. More softer and soft spoken too.

Although i never pictured Remus looking anything like that in the book, i kinda like the look. i think his hair should be more greying, but i think david has the "im rather knacked/ill/beaten up because of a terrible secret which happens to effect my mentall and physical health once a month look. i am horrified to see him taller than sirius, i swear the books describe remus as the smaller one, and davids huge! eitherthat or wormtails diddy, but he does look really tall next to them in the scene he turns into the werewolf. as for the mustash... im not sure if i like it or hate it.

Gary Oldman looked too old, but that could be blamed on -- possibly -- Azkaban. Whatever. But Remus is supposed to look young. Premature lines, yes, but still young. Snape too ought to be young. I know a lot of women love Rickman as Snape and, I will admit, he did a phenomenal job, but he was much too old in my opinion. They're all supposed to be in their late twenties/early thirties in the books and they look fifty. And James Potter... don't even get me started. James Potter died when he was like, what? Twenty-one? If that. The actor playing him did not look anywhere near his twenties! As far as all the actors abilities, they all are fine actors. I've seen David Thewlis, Gary Oldman and Alan Rickman in many different movies playing many different characters and they were superb! But I feel all three were too old for their characters. Oldman did an alright job with Sirius, though at times I didn't really buy it. Rickman is the man when it comes to capturing Snape's dark personality. But I was not feeling Thewlis as Remus at all. While watching the film, the character felt like a stranger to me; I just don't think he was right as Lupin. <-- my opinion only.
